They are very similar concepts -- that is at the center of the issues related to design & priority: which ones comes first, how do the two interact, etc. My guess is that you'll see basic movement recording first, then some way to edit that, then full integration into a track-based editor...

Cheers,
Jim

Default What about recording midi output?

I don't know if you gentlemen saw my post about midi recordingANDplayback under the Odds and Ends subforum?

If you record automation data into a midifile it won't show up awwhwh. But heres a trick from my old Cubase Days. I wanted to record midi automation to a normal type midi file. What did I do, do, do,.. Hm Well to make a long story short, I'd make sure I recorded a midi note on and off at the begining of the automation file. And another note on and off at the end of the file. Then I had a normal midi type 1 file that contained my automation data.

This you could do in Numerology using CC generators. Just set a midi track to record, route you controller data to that track. manually record your start note ons and offs. And fire away at poor old will.

Then load the file into the Mighty Midi app use a program like Keyboard Maestro to sync start of playback..

Automation on a shoestring! Now, err I mean yesterday or wasn't this something I figured out in a slightly different form. What 19 years ago? Not that I wouldn't love automation all fancy like in the program. But on the other had I have such good luck using various lfo tricks, Trigger Stacks. That I find I don't miss mixer automation. I've used the O2R quite extensively for a period and that device had smpte sync automation. This worked great,, but it also can be incredibly time consuming to work and rework automation data to suit a vision. I feel it's really at the onset of the production process the actual arrangement that has to work to be convincing, then this lessens the need for post production tweeks..

I've see the post but i haven't read it yet..but i read it for sure

Your solutions sound good but for me this feature of knobs recording is more related to a live situations and not to the automation.
For postproduction, right now i'm on Reaper and i must tell that is , almost for me and my workflow, the better daw that i've used.

Yes the knob recording, is like a short preset that set's certain movement in a memory buffer. This is as you are performing? Interesting concept if that is the case. Catching movements on the fly and playing it back.. I'm learning so much these days..

Thanks
