Default Syncing w/ Ableton, recording MIDI clips

How are you all using N4 w/ Ableton Live?...
I'm currently frustrated by the N4+Ableton approach using ReWire:
1) I need to have two apps running
2) I need to remember to save the projects in both apps
3) biggest personal peeve - when I attempt to record the MIDI stream from N4 in Ableton the resulting clip sounds flat and lifeless (because I am a great fan of the humanize control) even if quantization is off. Beats me. Why should this be?
So If I want whatever musical phrase to sound good in Ableton I need to record an audio clip from N4 and play that sample back in Ableton. Not a major issue but something that interrupts the flow when I'm in "the zone".

OTOH for some reason I still haven't managed to run N4 within Ableton: I'm using the N4 VST, and I'm patching whatever MIDI track to listen to N4's output, with the monitor selected as IN. So far, no joy

All of which sort of reinforces some of my previous statements: Numerology does sound wonderfully musical in an effortless way. Other programs (hello Logic) have to resort to tempo maps, groove pools, bla bla. Stuff them, I say.

When using the vst, you have to set the receiving track to the track numerology is on, and also select " numerology vst "

Yes you're right - that was a fast screen grab done to illustrate the point. IN is indeed selected in my set.

The important part is to select NumerologyVST in the second MIDI From dropdown where you're showing PostFX in your screen grab.

You can use Auto or In for the Monitor setting.

Damn - had totally overlooked the second drop down menu <palmface emoticon>
Thank you for that pointer

OTOH Monitor only works on IN position, I'm getting no signal in Auto for some reason....
