Default "Future version of Logic will be sandboxed requiring AUs to be sandbox friendly"

saw this on KVR -

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewto...er=asc&start=0

here's the gist of it...

https://twitter.com/Chris_Randall/st...39048354750464

apple sent an email to developers informing them that a future version of logic X (and garage band) will be sand boxed and all AUs and audio hardware will need to be sandbox friendly.

here's a direct quote of the email:

"I'm writing to inform you that the Logic team has posted Logic Pro X Developer Preview 1 build 2911.47. This special developer preview has the same functionality as version 10.0.2 and is being provided for your testing and continued development. At some point in the future Logic Pro X and GarageBand will be sandboxed, which means that all Audio Unit plugins and audio hardware will need to be sandbox-safe."

so, what does this mean for numerology?

I can't say for sure on the sandbox thing -- the spec is pretty clear on what apps are allowed to do, but it isn't clear how that translates to plugins -- specifically with regards to what parts of the file system can be written to. Apple has already pretty much shut off some usual app dirs (esp. /Library/Application Support), so for N4, I'm moving everything to the ~/Music directory -- which is what other companies are doing as well.

As for supporting VSTs, I'm willing to consider it, but I don't see how it is related to LogicX being sandboxed -- it doesn't mean that AUs would stop working in Numerology. Unless, of course, the sandbox is so restrictive that devs stop offering AU versions of their plugins.

i guess i'm worried that somewhere down the line the sandboxing disrupts use of AUs in other apps. but perhaps that's just "the sky is falling" mentality plaguing me.. but i guess we'll see a year from now where things are.
