Default N3 + mainstage = win

Not sure if anyone here heard, but along with the Logic Studio pricedrop Apple has released Mainstage for $30!!

Basically it's a live performance environment for Logic instruments. I just bought it with the intention of using it with numerology to host the badass Sculpture synth, Ultrabeat (love it) and a couple other very nice Logic instruments. I can't believe they basically sell ultrabeat and sculpture for $30...

Rewire looks like a great option for this combo. I'll post back once I get more into it...

It's a bit slow to map plugin parameters in mainstage, although I heard they made things easier in the app store version?

I really need to see if applescript works to map sculpture because I've been too lazy to tackle the whole thing.

The looper (under delay) is a nice little thing too.

ya loopback looks really nice. Everything is looks really easy. I think the mapping is the main improvement from v1.

The "patch" metaphor is actually really similar to numerology's presets. I bet they could be controlled via program changes or CCs too.

Sculpture is a wonderful instruments, i use it a lot with the 2th object set to External and i feed in sound from my modular but i think that using a real instrument as a percussion or a string may be exciting, another nice thing is use a modulation sequencer to control the XY morphing

I'm a big fan of MS and have used it since the very first 1.0. The Appstore release 2.2.1 has a general window for Assignments & Mappings, just like you have in Ableton Live. And the awesome new function here is that if you select "Unassigned" you can turn off "Send unassigned MIDI to all Channels Strips". This solves the issue that if some control surface you may use happens to work with a MIDI event matching the old Roland GM system (from the 80's) it won't play havoc with mixer levels and panning in Mainstage. I love that!!! Had so many issues with it in the past.

You assign every MS Patch a Program Change number. Patch switching can not be controlled via MIDI CC#, only by Program Change. But all plugin parameters and mixer settings can be controlled by MIDI CC# and Note Number events. Something that really shines in MS, compared to many other similar applications, is the tools for scaling control data. The work flow is to first create graphic objects on the screen (knobs, faders, keyboards, audio level meters, wave form display etc). The objects are assigned to follow external MIDI (that can come in from Numerology sent through the IAC Bus, or through any MIDI In port on the computer). Next stage is to assign these graphic control objects to software parameters and it is here that this awesome scaling can be applied.

Once I built a virtual synth/effect rack in Mainstage and used OS X IAC Bus to drive it with MIDI generated in Numerology. The good side is that it sounds very good and you get a lot of great instruments but I hate that fact that you have to control every damn parameter over MIDI. So there's a huge initial planning session needed in order to set everything up as your templet of choice. Feels a bit bulky compared to hosting third-party instruments and effects in Numerology.

I have not yet fiddled around with the Numerology AU plugin in Mainstage, but that's a fun thing to check out as well on some rainy day. Oops, when trying now to open the AU in the new MS 2.2.1 it crashes, every time.

Thank you for telling! I need to check on my system. I recently got a new drive in my MBP, on the first year warranty, and made a fresh install of 10.7.3. I'm having the same MS 2.2.1. crash issue with the Mobius 2.1 plugin. All other software working great though.
